Design by Wim Vesseur

The theatre was put into use in 1968 and designed by Wim Vesseur as a practical space (laboratory) for the study of theatre science. The stage space could facilitate a so-called fourth wall staging, an open stage, Elizabethan theatre, or a black box space. In the early years, the University Theatre also served as a stage for international (experimental) theater, in collaboration with the Holland Festival and the Mickery Theater.

A long series of internal productions has taken place in this theatre, in which students collaborated to build up practical experience with theatrical skills e.g., directing, dramaturgy, acting, adaptations, staging, costume design, theatre technique.
