Project Aim and Ideas
We want to bring liveliness to the Science Park campus and create a sense of community. The campus is very international and diverse in its population but lacks community and feels isolated and isolating especially during the winter time. Through our initiatives we hope to make Science Park a place to create connections, to let the students express their needs and to enjoy winter.
Cultural Centre:
A cultural centre on campus would act as a much needed gathering space as well as an environment where students could partake in events and programming. This could be anything from communal dinners that rotate between cultural cuisines, to a space for students to celebrate the multitude of Winter holidays. The aim behind this would be to provide a space where students could cozy up during the Winter months, feel welcome to share their cultures and in turn, feel less isolated and more part of a community.
Winter Market:
A Winter Market on campus would provide the opportunity for all demographics of Science Park and the surrounding area to gather and celebrate one another's cultural traditions and cuisines. Students, students unions, local businesses as well as neighbours would be able to contribute to activities as well as goods sold at stands. The goal of this would be to celebrate the holidays in a unifying way and on a larger scale, bringing together not only students, but the surrounding neighbourhoods as well.
Community Decor on Campus:
In response to student complaints about the dreariness of Science Park in the Winter, communally creating decor would not only liven up the campus, but provide an opportunity for students to be accustomed with one another. By partaking in a co-creating event, the aim of this would be for students to not only feel more care for their surroundings, but for the people that they share them with as well.
